A short one about a not-so-short one

It is a fact of life that, whatever stage of life you are, it is not always easy to begin a new diet or fitness regime – or indeed give up something for Lent, as some try to do every year.

Take the case of me and my new fitness regime which was scheduled to begin yesterday. I had everything mapped out: a morning spent doing my domestic and other chores, a quick food stop in my local high street, then a salad for lunch, my traditional brief post-prandial nap … and then off on a six-mile walk followed by a visit to the gym.

Everything went as per the plan until the aforesaid post-prandial nap. I hit the pillow … and then awoke a full two and a half hours later!

Ah well … when you get to my age, the new fitness regime can always begin another day.
