About Alan Tanner

After a distinguished military service in the Catering Corps, Alan Tanner did well in mufti with his chamois as a window cleaner. Sadly he had to retire after falling from the fifth floor of Danny Murphy's mock Tudor home. He spends his retirement watching and writing about his beloved Fulham whom he has supported for over 50 years. The Alan Tanner Report is sponsored by Tanner Crystal Clear Ltd, Window Cleaners to the Gentry. More Posts

The Tanner Report: Preston NE 2 Fulham 1

I  would like Scott Parker to succeed, I really would. He is part of that distinguished tradition of ex-players becoming successful managers – Bill Dodgin Junior, Malcolm MacDonald and Chris Coleman in my supporting years. He has good footballing values and is diligent but humble. He gets on [...]

The Tanner Report: Fulham 1 Bristol City 2

Fulham did not deserve anything from this game but some poor refereeing deprived us from sharing the spoils. The cardinal selection and tactical error made was to play Josh Onomah, the loanee from Spurs, just behind Alex Mitrovic. To play in that position you have to be slight, quick and with [...]

The Tanner Report: Swansea 1 Fulham 2

This was Fulham’s fourth consecutive win and inevitably attention focusses on Alex Mitrovic who scored both goals, bringing his season total to fourteen. I would however prefer to concentrate on our defence which has conceded two goals in that run. After the opening few games the perceived wisdom [...]

The Tanner Report: Fulham 3 Derby 0

Fulham coasted to victory over Derby who did not manage one shot on target. It was too easy a win to make for a captivating game unlike the derby against QPR last Friday. I went with an old school friend who is the son of TV and film character actor Sam Kydd. His father made nearly 300 films in the [...]

The Tanner Report; Fulham 2 QPR 1

The prodigal son returns. Last season Abou Kamara disrupted a yoga class, held the ball for a penalty from the clutches of regular taker Alex Mitrovic and missed it and, after a bust up with staff at the training ground, he was arrested and shipped out on loan to a Turkish club. Most of us thought [...]

The Tanner Report/Birmingham 0 Fulham 1

We window cleaners dislike more than anything else heavy rain. As often as not the client will cancel and if he/she does not cleaning the exterior when soaked is not much fun. Heavy rain descended on the Midlands all day yesterday and must have dampened the spirit of crowd and players at [...]

The Tanner Report : Fulham 2 Charlton 2

In an entertaining derby Fulham once again failed to beat their peers thereby supporting my view that Fulham look a formidable side but only against inferior opposition like Millwall and Reading. Recently promoted Charlton, under the stewardship of Lee Bowyer, could not be classified as inferior [...]

The Tanner Report: Reading 1 Fulham 4

Let’s not get too carried away. Reading were a poor side even without being reduced to 10 men for the majority of this match. Fulham looked best this season against another poor side Millwall. We failed to beat neither Nottingham Forest nor WBA who are above us. We can say that the Parker [...]

The Tanner Report; Fulham 2 Wigan 0

After three draws the Cottagers got back to their winning ways with this 2-0 home victory. It was not a wholly convincing performance but the great thing after 3 successive 1-1 draws was that at 1-0 with Wigan pressing Fulham scored a second. Most home games I meet pals at Locale an Italian [...]

Wines of Provence

Provence is chiefly know for its Roses but in fact produces fine whites and reds especially in the Southern Rhône (Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas spring to mind). The problem is the Mistral high wind. My favorite rose The Rosalie is grown at 600m above the worst of the effects of the Mistral and [...]
