About Alan Tanner

After a distinguished military service in the Catering Corps, Alan Tanner did well in mufti with his chamois as a window cleaner. Sadly he had to retire after falling from the fifth floor of Danny Murphy's mock Tudor home. He spends his retirement watching and writing about his beloved Fulham whom he has supported for over 50 years. Scott Parker: the case for and against

Fulham ‘s first away win at Bournemouth in a year solidifies the case for Scott Parker’s permanent appointment. Here I draw up the pros and cons: Pros 1) Fulham have had 6 managers over 6 years. Each new appointment might offer initial hope but the reality was upheaval. The case for continuity [...]

The Tanner Report on the last rites

Relegation duly happened last night at Vicarage Road where Fulham were crushed 4-1 by Watford. Fulham more than held up in a first half which ended on even terms and Zambo Anguissa had his best game yet but once again goals were too easily conceded and the home side ran out easy winners. Now the [...]

The Tanner Report: Fulham 0 Manchester City 2

Where do Fulham go from here with relegation inevitable? “Go from here” are the operative words as we are going to lose our loanees – Rico, Fosu-Mensah, Chambers, Nordveidt, Markovic, Babel, Vietto – and in all likelihood also Alex Mitrovic and possibly Tom Cairney and Ryan [...]

The Tanner Report / Fulham 1 Liverpool 2

Fulham’s run of defeats has extended to eight, and 70 goals conceded and, although performance levels have improved under Scott Parker, probably not enough to convince the powers that be that he should get the gig permanently. We rather feared playing the big boys at home but against Spurs, [...]

The Tanner Report: Leicester 3 Fulham 1

The Khan regime has sacked 6 managers – Martin Jol, Rene Meulensteen, Felix Magath, Kit Symons, Slavisa Jokatovic and Claudio Ranieri. Of these six, the last five were appointed by them and only Jokatovic can be judged a success. After each dismissal one hopes for a bounce. Scott Parker is [...]

The Tanner Report: Fulham 1 Chelsea 2

Fulham fans were much heartened by this performance. For long periods we took the game to Chelsea though I always felt- as happened – that if we did score Chelsea would speedily do the same. We conceded our normal 2 goals, making it 69 in total. However there were encouraging performances [...]

The Tanner Report / Ciao Ranieri

The departure of Claudio Ranieri yesterday did not come as any surprise. The taunts from the Fulham fans of “You don’t know what you’re doing” at the last two games indicated that he if he might have lost the dressing room he had certainly lost the confidence of the fans. Some of his [...]

The Tanner Report: West Ham 3 Fulham 1

The relegation trap door is becoming more open and Fulham are stumbling towards it. Claudio Ranieri can claim with some justification that the West Ham equaliser by Hernández was a blatant and calculated handball. This view does not alter the fact that keeper Sergio Rico flapped at the cross which [...]

The Tanner Report : Fulham 0 Manchester United 3

Although we had two scoreable chances in the first 10 minutes, the new look Manchester United ran out easy winners. It was the same old, same old defensive lapses, it’s now 58 goals conceded. It’s time to assess Claudio Ranieri and the place to start is his first game against Southampton. He [...]

The Tanner Report : Crystal Palace 2 Fulham 0

This was a game that Fulham had to win – or at very least not lose – to maintain the momentum of the second half recovery against Brighton. Three points would put us within striking distance of the group just above the relegation zone. It was a sterile performance with one shot on goal. [...]
