About Alan Tanner

After a distinguished military service in the Catering Corps, Alan Tanner did well in mufti with his chamois as a window cleaner. Sadly he had to retire after falling from the fifth floor of Danny Murphy's mock Tudor home. He spends his retirement watching and writing about his beloved Fulham whom he has supported for over 50 years. The Alan Tanner Report is sponsored by Tanner Crystal Clear Ltd, Window Cleaners to the Gentry. More Posts

The Tanner Report : Fulham 1 Watford 1

You could see in a first half the away side dominated the difference between the two teams. Watford were totally unchanged in their 6 Premier games, Fulham change their starting eleven every time so we have a back four that has to be introduced to each other. For the second week running we conceded [...]

The Tanner Report: Brighton 2 Fulham 2

Given the number of players who have played for both teams, and the clubs’s mutual ambition to survive in the top flight, a draw was a fitting and satisfactory result though achieved in a strange way. All of the goals conceded came after after crass errors. Two by forwards and one by the usually [...]

The Tanner Report : Fulham 4 Burnley 2

So Fulham, after an iffy start to the season, are up and running with our first three points. Played in appalling conditions of driving rain, we produced a sparkling performance in which Andre Schurrle, Jean Michel Seri and Alex Mitrovic vied for man-of the-match. I was most impressed by Andre [...]

The Tanner Report: Spurs 3 Fulham 1

You can rest assured that if a player has to break a duck – in Harry Kane’s case scoring in August – he will do so against Fulham. All week long I read and re-read the dreary statistic of his August drought and feared for us. By the time the England skipper broke his duck to make [...]

The Tanner Report: Fulham 0 Crystal Palace 2

Welcome to the Premier where if you are dominating a game it’s not enough, you need to be clinical in your finishing. Palace were, Fulham weren’t. Much was made of our new back four and keeper, none of whom started at Wembley in May, but since the words “reality check” will be used, the [...]

The Tanner Report/ After glow

Fulham fans have never been happier and it takes quite a bit to make us happy or rather to get us out of fatalist mode. Someone said that everybody loves Fulham, they are only a danger to themselves. At various points in the last few months it looked like the ‘same old, same old’ of [...]

Ticket office travails

The Fulham ticket office was for years manned by Sandra whom everybody knew, loved and trusted. Whenever there was a big game and tickets were an issue it was a case of “Get onto Sandra”. She was the type to be chosen as employee of the year as she knew her business and was more than helpful in [...]

The Tanner Report: Fulham 2 Derby 0

It’s been a long and bumpy journey. At various points on it we doubted whether we would get to the end of it, not least last Friday when we lost the first leg and the talk was ceaseless of Fulham’s play-off jinx. However we are going to Wembley for the first time in 43 years for one of the [...]

The Tanner Report: Derby 1 Fulham 0

So Fulham’s play-off jinx of no win in 7 games continues but all is not lost. Derby have to defend a one goal lead away from home and I doubt if they can go another 90 minutes without stopping us from scoring. The temptation for Gary Rowlett’s men will be to defend and niggle but the two-fold [...]

The Tanner Report: Birmingham 3 Fulham 1

Over the 50 years I have supported Fulham the one thing I could rely on is that Fulham would let you down: 2 cup finals, 1983 – when we missed out on promotion at the final game at Derby – whom we now face in the play-offs and now, when a win at Birmingham would have been sufficient we [...]
