Golfing weekend

After a near disaster in the US Open, I was back on track this weekend, so much so that I said to the missus:

Never mind, IKEA, we are shopping at Harrods now.’

Jeremy Chapman only picked the 1, 2 and 3 in the BMW German Open (Matt Wallace, Kerkonnen and Olesen) and 1 & 2 in the Travelers in Highlands Park (Bubba Watson and Paul Casey).

My missus did ask why I could have not laid more.  Having read Steve Palmer’s visceral account in The Racing Post of his betting fest at the US OPEN, when he admitted to losing control trying to make good his losses, I’m pleased to restrict my wager to £10 as I enjoy the golf all the more.

One of these pleasures is to see how a great golfer cannot cope with the pressure of the back nine in the final round.

Take two-time Major winner Martin Kaymer on his home turf. On the 17th he hit an excellent first shot and had simple chip to the green for a birdie. He scuffed his shot off the green and eventually bogeyed, eliminating all  chances of the victory that went to Matt Wallace.

Over in the States, Paul Casey started the final round with a 4 shot lead. Bubba Watson overhauled him. That is good news for both the USA and Europe  Ryder Cup teams.

I have been predicting the possible teams but there are still two Majors left and many USPGA and European events to go.
