Not quite as we remember them?

Every scruffy schoolboy and his catapult knows of Henry Ford’s famous dictum “History is bunk” but arguably it is the kind of glib dismissal put about only by those whose abilities and/or interests lie in other subjects.

Although mankind and science are in a constant state of evolution and advance – with ever-increasing speed, as some contributors to this august organ testify as they seem to find themselves falling off the pace – the fact is that the essentials of human nature never change. Which is why people of my ilk find history such a fascinating mine of information and conjecture.
