Stranger on the Shore

It’s funny how once you get a tune in your head you cannot readily dispel it. Yesterday being an unexpectedly clear and sunny day I took a long stroll by the sea.

Not altogether unlinked, the instrumental Stranger on the Shore by the clarinetist Acker Bilk lodged in my brain.

On the Rust we tend to be critical of the internet but it has its positive uses.

Back at base I went on YouTube. Not only could I access two videos of Strangers on the Shore but also a cornucopia of instrumentals like Telstar, Apache, and Take Five.

It’s a genre of music out of fashion these days except as soundtrack but an interesting fusion of melodic jazz and old fashioned pop.
