TheTanner Report: Charlton 0 Fulham 0

One of the factors in the Great Debate of attendance versus TV-watching is ease of travel. I watched this bore draw from the comfort of my sofa on the Skysport red button.

I certainly would not have wanted to make a 3 hour journey home in the cold from Charlton. As it was, I was in bed by 10.

Michael Hector was again commanding as Fulham kept their third successive clean sheet.  He did however miss Fulham’s best chance,  a free header from a corner he put wide.

Michael Hector is on loan from Chelsea – who already are well-stocked in the central defence department with Zouma, Rudiger and Christensen – so he would have difficulty in getting a first team place.

Chelsea usually put an unrealistic price on their loanees if they are to be sold so the likeliest outcome is to continue the loan. Alfie Mawson, a £20m defender acquisition last season, did not even make the bench.

Our next game is Manchester City away in the FA Cup.

I have  a long-standing commitment for Sunday lunch and the game is now fixed then at 1.00 pm so I cannot even watch it.  In today’s football world the convenience of supporters counts for little.

I fear that the traditional Boxing Day match will be lost in the clamour for a winter break.  I’m dead against it: clubs will go on tour then to a lucrative friendly fixture in the Middle East and with our weather you could have a benign Xmas and severe February.

About Alan Tanner

After a distinguished military service in the Catering Corps, Alan Tanner did well in mufti with his chamois as a window cleaner. Sadly he had to retire after falling from the fifth floor of Danny Murphy's mock Tudor home. He spends his retirement watching and writing about his beloved Fulham whom he has supported for over 50 years.
