Yet more computor generated aggro

Yesterday I received a letter – no doubt computer-generated – regarding my renewal of travel insurance.

The letter was dated 22 November and the final date for renewal was 22 November so the policy had lapsed.

I had even spoke to them on 21st October informing them that the bank for some reason had cancelled my credit card. Being an efficient sort I even noted the day (11th November) for payment.

I thought it would be a simple matter to effect payment yesterday after the 11th had passed without payment. No such luck. There was a three minute opening blurb about giving correct info till I was put through.

As the policy had lapsed I had to answer every question the computer now generated. The whole exercise took 20 minutes.

I now see how large scale insurance companies are run.

Contact is encouraged via the website or to a call centre whose operatives respond to the computer.

Trained staff who know their business and might have been at the company for many years are no more. Money is directed as well as energies on a constant barrage of email promotion.

The net result is exasperation to the client consumer.
