An Evening of Magic

exactl

This year Sussex CCC does not have a cricketer as beneficiary but rather its charity the Sussex Charitable Foundation.  David Bowden who is active in both the Cricket and  SCF and a talented magician to boot organised an evening of magic at the Hove Ground last night for the SCF to which I was invited.

He and a professional magician baffled us with various tricks. How for example did a playing card, the six of diamonds, finish up in sealed red envelope with the name of the lady on our table who picked it? Obviously by some sleight of hand he inserted it but I studied him carefully and could not detect this. Two comedians, one an ex-hockey keeper Roger Deakin, provided the humour. Their material was decidedly non PC but that does not condemn it.

Sussex have drawn both their matches and next one up is Leicestershire who do not exactly emulate their footballing counterpart as they went two seasons without a win. With only one promotion place we need to start winning. No such accusation can be made of Brighton HAFC who are on 87 points the same number as Burnley and Middlesbrough. With the Seagulls playing  their last game at Middlesbrough it will go to the wire and, with Brighton only 3 goals the worse in goal difference, we are all studying the rule book as to what happens if both sides have equality. It does seem rather ludicrous that if Brighton play in the play-offs they could be beaten by Sheffield Wednesday currently 17 points behind.
