Don’t ever feel sorry for bookies

No I’m not one of the 47 that laid Leicester at 5000-1 at Ladbrokes to win the Premier. an article in the Racing Post coveredthe damage to bookies.   The upside is  the publicity and the coupon (accumulator) busting that Leicester did.   This said it’s clear the bookies misread the signs by offering 1500-1 in the later months of 2015

Personally I like to bet in the moment not tie up money for months. However I did have a tickle on Atletico Madrid alongside Juventus and PSG once the draw was announced. Rex who likes an underdog advised that Altetico hardly warrant that description as they reached the final two years ago again playing Real Madrid and have been chasing Barcelona all season. At 10-1 I would have some of that.

I heard that self styled tactical guru of our times Chris Waddle decry Atletico who suffer comparison as street fighters compared to the beautiful aesthetes of Bayern and Barca. Personally I can only admire them for breaking the weighted duopoly of Real Madrid and Barcelona. With Seville twice winning the Europa league and Villareal having every chance of eliminating Liverpool the alternative Spanish clubs have almost ranked Leicester. Atletico have apparently sold £325 m worth of players these past 5 seasons. Just look at their forwards – Aguerro, Falcos and Costa and now Griesmann would go for double the 60m euros they paid. I do not find their football as dull an destructive and Barca can be a petulant team when things are not going their way.

My biggest coup? Ben Curtis  at 500-1 to win the Open …
