Here we go again

It’s that time of year again – or at least I think it is. Yesterday my eagle eye spotted a piece in The Sunday Times on the subject of whether or not Sir Elton John was Britain’s most generous philanthropist, based on ‘latest figures’, which suggested to me that we will shortly be hit with the 2016 edition of The Sunday Times Rich List.

In this frenetic modern world of social media gossip and prying eyes we widowed or divorced discreet high-net-worth individuals have increasing difficulty trying to ‘remain under the radar’ – constantly having to ensure that we stay in only the third best suites at the world’s top hotels, never having the biggest private jets at major airports and/or the most ostentatious yachts at Monaco during the Formula One Grand Prix … and so on. This recent fuss over the Panama Papers hasn’t helped. The irony is that if I didn’t have to spend so much time and money keeping one step ahead of the pack, I’d probably be about 200 places higher on the damned List anyway.

Articles in the press don’t help either. Here’s a typical example by Candida Crewe which appears today on the website of the – DAILY MAIL

As a precaution I’ve now made plans not to be seen out in public for the next three months …
