A while back, commenting upon the influence – and not always in a good way – of grubby business practices upon the world of elite sport, I made mention of Bernie Ecclestone’s German potentially-catastrophic court case in which he had been accused of bribery on a grand scale.
Today we learn that – this being a normal and accepted feature of German law – Bernie has settled the case to the satisfaction of the prosecutors by paying a sum equivalent to £60 million whilst, it must be added, maintaining his complete innocence of the charges in question.
