Once more into the shoot out

Rex Mitchell runs the rule over England and makes his Wolrd Cup predictions

Although there seems to be a change of attitude by not going into the World Cup gung-ho with the familiar war metaphors, there is still a feeling that England may surprise a few. Get real. We have only won one tournament in history, when we played every game on a sapping Wembley pitch and we have not even reached a final since. We are  a consistent second tier nation that does not retain the ball, does not win penalty shoot outs and do not possess a winning tournament mentality like Germany.

I believe that canny Roy will get a draw, probably goalless, against Italy but that we will lose to Uruguay and beat Costa Rica. I fancy Argentina to win and Spain, at 13-2 for a country that has won its last three tournaments and not conceded a goal since 2006, represents the best value. Colombia are my dark horses, whilst Italy recently have been a strong competitive side . I fancy Higuain to be top scorer.
