On the tee with Pargie

For the fourth time out of five thanks to Jeremy Chapman I nabbed a winner in John Rahm. Ram trousered $5 million as he won the Race to Dubai as well as the DP event on the Jumeireh course.

Comparisons were inevitably made to Seve Ballesteros and Rahm knew his Spanish golfers, even citing Seve’s uncle Ramon Sota.

I see some similarities in their expansive game, which both Rahm and Seve practice, but the former is a product of the US college system, the latter the caddy shack in Pedrona.

Rahm did start with two birdies, set up a 5 shot lead and then blew it with two consecutive bogeys.

Temperament was once his problem but Rahm steadied to head off the challenge of Mike Lorenzo-Vera the Frenchman and birdied the last to win. The odds on Rahm were skinny but the continued revival of Danny Willett, who finished fifth, meant an each way win at 6-1.

Picking golfers with attractive odds is not easy but a few to watch are South African Christian Buidenzout, the Swede Mark Hinault, Mexican Abraham Ancer and Aussie Cameron Smith.

I steer clear of Rory these days, always a high finisher but not so often a winner.
