Brighton confirm Fabian Huerzerler as Head Coach

First a few facts courtesy of the Argus Brighton football reporter Brian Owen. Huerzeler is the youngest Premier boss in Brighton’s history at 31 ( Charlie Webb was aged 28 when appointed in 1919) Heuzzeler younger than Lewis Dunk and Pascal Groß, and the formation of the Premier League in 1992.

Generally Tony Bloom as chairman has appointed from left-field, with Roberto de Zerbi and before him Graham Potter.

Few heard of them when appointed and few will have heard of Huezerler.

His claim to fame is winning the Bundesliga 2 title with St Pauli, the second team of Hamsburg.

Whilst the previous coaching team of Andrew Crofts and Jack Stern (goalkeeping) remain in place, the issue of too many injuries (Solly March, Kouru Mitoma, Jack Hinshelwood, Pervis Estupian) is addressed by a fresh sports injury expert that Huerzeler will recruit.

Brighton are a very well-run club but mistakes have been made. Victor Gyorkeres, one of the most prolific European scorers, was on their books and Sammy Hyppia did not work out as boss.

Chris Hughton was the only boss recruited by Bloom aged over fifty, but – when his football became dull – Bloom sacked him, some thought unfairly.

Potter and De Zerbi have carried the club forward, avoiding relegation (still a priority in their accounts) and achieving European football in the Europa League.

It’s certainly a risk and we shall see…
