MY GOLFING WEEKEND

My good run continues with a 28-1 1 punt on Adam Scott at the Genesis Invitational at the Riviers Club, Hollywood, the golf club of the stars.

When Jeremy Chapman recommended him alongside Marc Leishman, Bubba Watson and Justin Thomas, it was Scott I fancied least as he has not won anything for 4 years and has difficulty with the  long-handled putter.

On Friday I looked down the leaderboard for Thomas, Watson and Leishman and I saw no sign of them – and checked again for Scott who was fourth.

By Saturday he was up there with the leaders but Matt Kuchar and Rory McIlroy looked threatening.

On the Sunday he saw them all off.

Typical of his course management was the 17th, when he had a tricky pitch to the green.

Instead of aiming for the pin, he pitched to just below it, leaving himself with an uphill putt to make par which he sunk.

Had he chipped for the pin he might have finished well past and bogeyed.

There is much talk in the locker room of a Premier League of Golf.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy would still be the two biggest names to attract, notwithstanding that Tiger finished bottom of those who made the cut and McIlroy folded at the Genesis after a double bogey on the fifth.

Last night the run was maintained by backing against Chelsea.

My new tactic is to watch a game for 10 minutes to get a feel for it, rather than research beforehand.

Chelsea appointed Frank Lampard as he is a club legend and could work with their kids, as at the time they had a transfer ban.

I don’t believe he has the necessary acumen to manage at the highest level. The jury is out on Ole Solskjaer too but United have a mean defence.

It was a dull first 20 minutes but United were holding Chelsea well who were still at 5-8 to  win. So my tickle seemed sensible and was almost immediately rewarded by a United goal.
