English’ s
Yesterday I had my third lunch at English’s since it reopened.
Why do I like the restaurant so much?
They know me there and always give me my favourite table.
The managers have not changed for 6 years except for Nick who passed away after leaving.
The sea food is reliable.
The prices are fair and with the £10 food subsidy the set menu at £28 for 3 courses represents good value.
On a sunny day like yesterday it’s glorious to eat al fresco with a vocalist and musicians playing assorted songs in the courtyard.
I have a regular lunch there with my old schoolteacher and tutor from my old school.
He is a spritely 78 now and drinks alcohol when he wants and ate a cholesterol-filled tiramisu.
He is cultivated man and I especially enjoy talking about the theatre with him. We both agreed how much we missed restaurant life during lockdown and he said he could not face another one.
There are many restaurants in Brighton but English’s has been in business there for nearly 75 years and I can see why.
