Brighton 3 Wolves 3
This was an entertaining game with some positives but the Seagulls ended it without a home win this season and only one in the year 2020.
We were at one stage 3-1 down so can draw hope and strength from a come back
Aaron Connolly added to his single goal tally with a clever flick to score from Leandro Trossard’s cross.
However Saiss of Wolves almost immediately equalised and then the away side scored two more.
Big Dan Burn at full back for Brighton had a torrid time.
He turned a ball into his own net but to be truthful keeper Sanchez flapped at the cross when he should have punched clear. The ball struck Burn and dribbled into the net.
Burn had problems with Adama Traore all match. Traore is built like an All Black centre being so muscular and pacy.
He burst past Burn along the goal line who upended him.
Penalty.
Neves converted this. 3-1 at half time.
The Seagulls did revive in the second half.
Neil Maupay was upended by Joao Moutinho in the box and converted the penalty.
Lewis Dunk, who not only had a commanding game at the back but showed his ability from set pieces, headed home the equaliser from one.
Wolves might have scored with the final kick of the game but a draw reflected play.
When John Pargiter called pre-match, I advised him to back the draw.
Coach Graham Potter needs to decide what is his best team and select it consistently and consecutively.
Once again he rang the changes – recalling Trossard, Connolly, Maupay and March.
Brighton are not in the bottom three but their January games include Spurs at home, Manchester City away and Fulham at home.
The latter will be crucial.
I was impressed by Efan Ekoku the ex-Wimbledon striker as analyst on Sky.
I vehemently disagree with Jake Humphreys of BT Sport in defending Karen Cairney – in my view a poor analyst- on the basis the public want to hear opinions and she is entitled to express hers.
It was not an opinion but more a statement of fact that Leeds had profited from COVID.
With some losing their loved ones and most having their lives spoiled by it her phrase was regrettable to say the least but the sisterhood and PC presenters rallied to her defence.
Ekoku by contrast does what we expect from an analyst giving added value.
He believed that March should switch wings which he duly did. He noticed that Dunk’s header was deflected.
I’m not interested in opinions.
As my dear mother would say “I can’t stand people with principles. It’s always their principles.”
