Grace/ ITV
The many Rusters who live in Brighton might be disappointed to see more images of a person stuck in a coffin in this new series than shots of their city.
Add in limp dialogue and poor acting I doubt if there will be many takers for the next one.
A stag night goes wrong with the groom stuffed and buried in a coffin.
A person returns to remove the air pipe of the property developer within and then his finger is removed.
Just the job for a Sunday evening viewing during lockdown.
You can always tell when an actor cannot act as they are reduced to shouting.
This happens often though John Simm as Grace remains level-headed though stressed by the disappearance of his wife and drawing upon the occult to assist in his investigation.
Grace compared badly to The Investigation which succeeded in making routine police work more interesting. Classics like Poirot have better acting and plot lines. Going back further in time my late mother adored Columbo . My father who had a more analytical brain perceived the attritional way Lieutenant Columbo ( Pster Falk) wore down the superego of the murderer. Normally 15 minutes into the programme Columbo would finish the interview with a testy main suspect , stand in the doorway before leaving , raise an arm of his scruffy raincoat and say
“ One more thing which I’m sure is not important but troubles me…”.
You know Columbo has got him/her and the rest is detective work – never violent – to nail the perp.
