Covid- living with it, or dying of it ?

Two recent incidents defined to me, and and increasingly I should suspect the public’s, attitude to Covid.

Staying with some friends in the country, which I presently am, I arranged a cat/house-sitter for my beloved pussy cat who requires 2 insulin injections daily.

The said cat/house-sitter Holly contacted me on Thursday to say her boyfriend had been alerted by the NHS app that he had been in contact with someone tested positive for Covid and although she herself was not alerted would I still want her to do the task?

Indeed I would.

She had been doubly-vaccinated had been tested negative after the lateral flow test and her boyfriend was tested negative too.

When I informed my friend/hostess for the weekend of this she too had received such an alert.

As a hard-working mother, financier and running 2 large homes, she reluctantly had to self-isolate for a week.

I also heard the boss of a restaurant company – complaining of the effect of the measures in place – being accused of disregard for his staff by a BBC interviewer.

He said apart from all the measures he had installed, diners had little contact with staff.

Track-and-search is now disproportionately applied.

Sports lovers I know accustomed to attending summer events at Lords, Wimbledon and Royal Ascot were so put off by the imposition of controls that they did not bother to attend.

I guess after July 17th such controls will cease.

We will revert to what most of us predicted. We will have to live with Covid just like flu but it’s unlikely now to kill us off.
