My sporting weekend
It’s weekends like these that justify my £10 betting cap.
Sunday was grey, windy and wet.
A perfect day then for tv sport except we were denied by the weather an exciting finale to the Test and it was the finale too of the Olympics.
The Racing Post felt that Fulham, whilst a better side than Middlesbrough, might struggle in their first game.
They should have won but did not.
I backed against Coventry but lost when the midland outfit scored their winner in the sixth minute of injury time.
The crowd made a huge difference
It was Coventry’s first game back in their city after two years in Birmingham City’s stadium and the crowd certainly got behind the team. Coventry were behind most of the game but once they equalised the crowd spurred them on to victory.
My bad luck continued with the golf.
When I turned in at 9-30pm my pick in the World Players Championship in Memphis Harris English was leading by two strokes but when I checked in the early hours he had a disastrous back nine with 2 double bogeys to finish fourth.
He looked so calm too.
Mexican Abraham Ancer won the tourney.
During the advertising breaks I speculated on the American team for next month’s Ryder Cup and came up with:
Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Reed. Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau, Jordan Spieth, Daniel Berger, Jason Kokrak, Patrick Cantlay, Harris English and Webb Simpson.
Looks formidable to me.
