Thoughts on the Six Nations

I sent an email to a rugby enthusiast with my prediction that Ireland would win the Six Nations but was not confident of England’s chances.

Aside from the injuries, a back row that did not inspire and Joe Marchant on the wing, I have serious doubts about Eddie Jones’ game management.

My friend responded that Ireland have a tricky match in Paris and home advantage means much.

Ireland disposed of Wales with little difficulty.

England controlled their  game but in the second half key plays and moments went to Scotland.

Sandra McConnell has already mentioned the Joe Marler mis-throw but I would add Marcus Smith’s failure to convert, George Ford not kicking a penalty for points but going for position with a poor kick to boot.

Scotland deserved their win and it was churlish of Jones to blame the referee.

He should have been replaced long ago but the RFU do not have the funds.

I will miss Brian Moore.

There is something about these Geoff Boycott types – Ian Chappell is another.

Yes, they are curmudgeonly but they call it right. It’s typical of the modern BBC coverage that they want a regional accent.

I don’t care for Sonia McLoughlin’s interview technique.

Every question begins with “How does it/you feel?”

Maggie Alphonsi would provide much more astute analysis.

Alan Tanner does not have a post this week but I take my hat off to his Fulham for taking the game to Manchester City in their Cup Tie at the Etihad with Fabio Carvalho out-performing the City all star City midfield.
