Winter Olympics (non-watch) continued:-
Here follows a short digest of the latest “stories of potential interest” from the pathetic apology for a Winter Olympic Games taking place in Beijing:-
TEAM USA SEXUAL MISCONDUCT AND RACISM ALLEGATIONS
According to multiple media reports I have seen overnight a lady named Callan Chythlook-Sifsof, now 32, who took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics, has accused Team USA coach Peter Foley of sexual misconduct and snowboarder Hagen Kearney of casual racism.
According to Chythlook-Sifof, Foley has taken naked photographs of female athletes for decades. Mr Foley has denied the allegations.
She also claims that Kearney, who finished 17th in the snowboardcross event on Thursday, frequently used the N-word and made rape jokes about female team mates.
Mr Karney has responded by saying he has learned from his mistakes and “is a better person now for it”.
MOSCOW LABORATORY BOSS TURNED WHISTLE-BLOWER ADMITS THAT RUSSIA SYSTEMATICALLY ADMINISTERED BANNED PERFORMANCE-ENHANCING DRUG TO ITS ATHLETES
Technically-speaking and officially, of course, Russia is not taking part in the ongoing 2022 Winter Olympics because of sanctions imposed by the IOC after Russia was proved to have been running a routine doping programme in the run-up to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
Instead its athletes are competing in Beijing under the auspices of the ”Russian Olympic Committee”.
Dope test cover-upper (and now whistleblower) Grigory Rodchenkov, the boss of the Moscow laboratory originally “owned up” to the Russian doping scandal by admitting that he orchestrated the disguising of Russian athletes’ positive tests for the drug trimetazidine – which can increase blood flow efficiency and improve endurance – in 2014.
He has now claimed that he and his team covered up similar positive drugs tests for thousands of Russian athletes across dozens of sports.
(It should be noted that trimetazidine is banned both in and out of competition by WADA, the Word Anti-Doping Agency).
Russia’s latest scandal is, of course, the revelation that its new “wunderkid” – 15 year-old Kamila Valieva, who was part of the Russian team that “won” the figure skating team gold medal last Monday – tested positive for trimetazidine in December, albeit that (for unknown reasons) the Stockholm laboratory processing the test involved took until 7th February to process it and announce the result.
[I think that Rusters everywhere can safely put that delay down to “politics”].
POSTSCRIPT
To finish today, here are two reports by Riath Al-Samarrai that I spotted today upon the website of the Daily Mail, which (I need hardly remind Rusters) is the only UK national newspaper which allows the average punter to link its reports to others.
(I was tempted to add “You couldn’t make these up” – but quite frankly, I think you probably could!).
