A day at the County Ground

Yesterday summer had come with fine sunny weather and a cooling sea breeze and what better place to enjoy if than at the county ground at Hove for the first day of the Championship game v Leicestershire?

Leicestershire put Sussex into bat and took 3 wickets in the first session.

Once again captain John Simpson, acquired from Middlesex, contributed a vital knock of 180 to leave Sussex at stumps with 431-7 on the scoreboard.

Oli Carter also made a fine 96 with one glorious cover drive worth the admission money alone.

By the afternoon the sun was so powerful that my neighbour, a loquacious Ulsterman, and I were reaching for the sun block. Perhaps ill-advisedly, but enjoyably all the same, we has several Pimms too.

Sussex are in good shape and we are delighted that our boy Jofra Archer – after being out because of injury – is performing so effectively for England in the the T20 World Cup.
