A la Colthard/The post opening challenge

I have been to three restaurants since April 12th with varying degrees of enjoyment.

There are two main problems: expectation level post-lockdown is unrealistically high and secondly it’s bloody cold.

It reminds me of my dating when you wondered for weeks what the first night would be like and it turned out a great disappointment !!!

I tried to book lunch in advance at the Kennels Club in Goodwood for last Friday only to be informed that there was no reservations and only bar food.

So instead I went to an old favourite – the Bridge Inn at Amberley.

My guest, an internet entrepreneur, objected to any form of track and trace app but we compromised as they accepted my phone number.

As it was lunchtime we did not freeze to death as I did that early evening at my neighbourhood Trattoria.

I like them too much to ‘name and shame’ but one of our party was so cold she asked to move only to be informed every table was booked.

Daffers made her feelings clear and we were duly relocated but an icy wind blew through the restaurant.

So much so that I thought I was on HMS Endurance on south polar exploration with Ernest Shackleton !!!!
