A superb day of TV sport

I can scarcely remember a more exciting day of TV sport.

It started with a lunchtime thriller of a quarter-final FA Cup tie contested between Wolves and Coventry which the latter won with 2 goals in extra time.

Next up was Italy’s 24-21 victory over Wales in Cardiff.

Italy are my team of the Six Nations, now having beaten Wales and Scotland and drawing with France.

Gone are the days when the Azzurri are automatically awarded the wooden spoon and have only 2 players of true international quality.

They played with verve and guts always putting Wales on the back foot.

Next I watched Fulham dispose of a poor Spurs side 3-0.

I marvelled at their goalscoring sensation Rodrigo Muniz, who had scored 6 goals in 46 games and then 7 in 7.

Alan Tanner says he has the confidence to attack the box and his second – and Fulham’s third – was evidence of this when he prodded the ball home, his courage causing a leg injury from a challenge.

England lost narrowly to France, who have been on a downward spiral after the World Cup, but never easy to beat on their own patch.

It was another stirring performance in a match that could have gone either way.

Ben Earl was terrific at number eight and George Ford had his best game since Argentina in the World Cup.

The French pack was heavier but England matched them.

With the expense and bother of going to a live sport match reflected by lower attendance at the marquee event of steeplechasing at Cheltenham, I predict more will opt for watching at home and to increase profits venues will ramp up the hospitality.
