For someone as cynical as myself about the world of politics and “the Establishment” there is little more fascinating that a good old-fashioned newspaper expose of hypocrisy, double-dealing, “do as I say, not as I do”, “one law for the rich, another for everyone else”, “I’m all right, Jack!” and/or (just generally) examples of “the Powers That Be” being caught with their snouts in the trough in any form you’d care to mention.

Here’s another in the tradition of those “uncovered by Fleet Street’s Finest” that at first sight appears to epitomise the genre so well that it could have been surrealist fiction.

And yet seems not to be.
