Just in

And suddenly – we voted Brexit, folks (apparently)!

Overnight I visited the website of The Independent and suddenly felt that I’d fallen into a parallel universe in which Brexit had suddenly become the only topic of the moment. Flicking to the equivalents of the other what-used-to-be-called UK broadsheet ‘serious’ newspapers and normality seemed to have been restored. Yes, they all featured Brexit stories of one kind or another, but not to the extent of The Independent.

See here:

Rob Merrick on the apparent Government acknowledgement that MPs have the right to vote upon and/or block any negotiated Brexit deal – THE INDEPENDENT (1)

Rob Merrick on the revelation that six or so years ago the Government categorically that in the UK referend results cannot override the sovereignty of the UK Parliament – THE INDEPENDENT (2)

Ben Chu on the allegedly five basic options for a Brexit deal – THE INDEPENDENT (3)

Tom Peck on the theme that those who voted to Leave in the EU Referendum didn’t care if the result might render them worse off financially – THE INDEPENDENT (4)

James Moore on the inescapable likelihood that we’re all going to be worse off under Brexit – THE INDEPENDENT (5)

What’s happened at The Independent? Has the owner and/or the editorial team suddenly woken up and smelt the coffee … or have they suddenly realised that a Referendum took place?

I think we should be told.
