Another fine mess sport has got itself into

Here’s the latest development in elite gymnastics, yet another Olympic sport at which the British administrative authorities seems to have got themselves in a major pickle – see here for the relevant Martha Kelner article, as appears today upon the website of – THE GUARDIAN

Major issues with sports administration – regarding its set-up in different sports around the world, the contracts that athletes have to sign just to get funded, and even the detailed manner in which sports are organised, right down to the relationships between coaches and athletes (including those that become manipulative and/or sexually exploitative) – will never go away.

We’ve recently had the Hollywood, entertainment industry, political – and just workplace generally – sex scandals which are bound to keep running for a while yet. Similar are bound to have existed in sport too.

There was a report last week of a coach in a British track & field sport being investigated for an ‘improper relationship’ with an athlete. In the USA, gym coach Larry Nassar has been charged with 22 counts of sexually abusing female athletes, including at least two US Olympic gold medalists, and in all there are now apparently 81 alleged victims that have reported his behaviour.

Tip of the iceberg (but perhaps also witch hunt) time, I fear, folks …
