Autumn sporting contests

We have now reached the end of autumnal sport contests: the Ryder Cup, the Rugby World Cup and the Cricket World Cup.

Of the three I enjoyed the Rugby World Cup the most as England defied the critics – who at one stage doubted they could qualify – by holding South Africa until the 79th minute.

The common denominator was that boastful sporting nations, except for South Africa, got their come-uppance.

Not that the Aussies are short in arrogance, but I was not alone in delighting to see them win the Cricket World Cup and give it back to India whose board have rigged the tournament to see them home, though  the Aussies thought different.

Now we must wait for June 2024 – the Euros in Germany – for the next Competition.
