Barcelona 3 Inter 3/Champions League semi-final
Barca and Inter produced a classic that will live in the memories for some time. It was billed as a clash of styles: the Cavalier versus the Roundhead; the pragmatic versus the romantic; efficiency versus flair. Yet I felt this was not entirely fair as Inter led three times and were lethal on the break.
Barca did have a prodigy in Lanine Yamal – just 17 – with 100 games already to his credit.
He has sumptuous skills and every time he was found on the right you felt something might happen and it invariably did.
Not that he was selfish, as often as not playing a telling cross or pass as taking on a defender.
Barca’s defence wash not well organised. They miss a Gerard Pique with Pep Guardiola in front of him, or the rugged Carlos Puyol.
By contrast Jan Sommer was a redoubtable last line of Inter defence in goal in front or a typically well marshalled defence
This was a much better game than Arsenal v PSG. Arsenal have some fine youngsters but nothing to compare with Yamal and I doubt if they could come back after being behind thrice.
