Best Barbados XI
Mike Atherton is my favourite cricket writer and his column in The Times is a must read.
In Tuesday’s edition – rather than stretch out England’s poor performance at the Kensington Oval last Saturday – he composed a well-crafted piece on Barbados, arguing that few places can outdo the Caribbean island for leading cricketers, and then gave his personal list:
Desmond Haynes, Gordon Greenidge, Frank Worrell, Everton Weekes, Clyde Walcott, Garfield Sobers, Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, Wes Hall and Charlie Griffith.
Hold on, that’s only ten names … so he gave the final place to commentator Tony Cozier. I might have included Seymour Nurse to the batters or Wayne Daniel to the pace attack. However I certainly would include Tony Cozier for an invite to the party of the chosen team he might host.
