Boris Johnson, Judaism and politics

My niece sent me this Chanukah message from Boris Johnson – see here, courtesy of – TWITTER

Like many including the Rust political columnists she cast Bojo as bumbling, lacking genuine conviction, chaotic, rackety, with an unusual personal life.

However, even his sternest critics must admit that he is an excellent commentator.

This Chanukah message is warm, inclusive and inspiring.

Contrast this with Sir Keir Starmer’s Chanukah message – see here, courtesy of  – TWITTER

This does contain the message of the celebration of the Maccabees over superior numbers but he is too stiff and stolid.

Johnson’s message has already gone viral in the Jewish community and his status there is assured.

Many Jewish people voted Labour in 1945.

They became disillusioned by Home Secretary Chuter Ede’s sterile acceptance of the resurgence of fascism and Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin’s lack of support for Israeli emigration.

Possibly the most Jewish-inclined PM was Margaret Thatcher.

Her mentor was Keith Joseph and other Jews in her cabinet were Nigel Lawson, Leon Brittain, Malcolm Rifkind and David Young.

Tony Blair ennobled Lords Levy, Sugar and Grabiner but Labour had another setback with Jewish support with Jeremy Corbyn’s remarks.

Boris Johnson, with this message, has entrenched Jewish support at a time when his Prime Ministership looks beleaguered.
