Brighton 0 Everton 1
Brighton’s run of poor home form continued – our last home win was in November.
David Moyes, who has 700 managerial games under his belt, did a number over the considerably less experienced Fabian Hürzeler.
Surprisingly Minteh was overlooked for Grouda, but the latter was ineffectual and at half time he made way for the former and Georginio Rutter.
Although this introduction carried more attacking threat Everton were all ready one up when Joel Veltman handled the ball in the box.
Veltman claimed he was pushed, but to me it looked like ball to hand. Everton’s Ntiya converted the penalty.
It stayed 0-1 and was in truth not just a poor performance but a poor match. Brighton are still mid-table and – whilst the natives are restless – there is no need to panic.
The Seagulls have a difficult series of games ahead of them. On Saturday they go to Nottingham Forest when the kick off is 11-30am (the match is televised, hence a kick-0ff time which is hardly easy for travel from the South Coast) and then entertain Chelsea at the Amex in successive games in the FA Cup and the Premiership, so that winless home run looks like extending.
We can only hope that ex-Brighton keeper Roberto Sanchez has another ‘mare.
He’s been making a major error in every game and has lost the confidence of his coach Matesca.
