Brighton 1 AS Roma 0 (Europa League Round of 16)

In the end the deficit of 4 goals was too much though Brighton did have their chances.

We play good football in 75% of the pitch but lack bite in the box.

They really miss Mitoma, March and – above all their top scorer in this competition – Joao Pedro.

In summing up the campaign, it’s been wonderful for the fans who made the journey to Amsterdam for Ajax, Marseilles and Roma.

Many of them would have made the journey to Gillingham and witnessed games at the Goldstone and Withdean stadia.

The squad did not have enough depth and team selected against Roma lacked a midfield goal-scorer. After Danny Welbeck scored with an exquisite chip goal I thought the fervent crowd might just produce a momentum of more goals but canny Roma disrupted the rythym of the game with perry fouls and closed up shop.
