Covid – a personal view and a pleasant evening

My own macro view of the present Covid situation is that we are a long way from the crisis of spring.

Everyone should take necessary precautions but beyond that is matter of personal choice not Boris Johnson diktat. Also the question of paying for massive handouts needs to be better addressed.

Last night I was invited to dinner at home of a couple I have got to know well.

J is an  art teacher whom I met through Alice and J’s husband R, a jazz drummer.

J is close to her two male grandchildren whose mother, an air hostess, lives near Lyon.

The grandchildren are millennials and of a group depressed by  going out less.

J and R have sufficient resources to cope in their extensive home stay and happily married since 1962 there were was no palpable tension between them.

Sensibly J prepared a hearty meal of roast chicken which did not confine her to the kitchen.

I always enjoy the views of experts in their field.

R rated Eddie “ Lockjaw” Davis as the finest jazz musician he knew and played with.

When I mentioned to J that we (the UK) could have acquired the Thyssen art collection she referred to others we rejected.

The Tate was offered all Francis Bacon’s works after his death but said they did not have enough room.

The best thing about eating with good friends is that once you feel tired – as I did by 10.15pm – you can leave without making your excuses.

As I took the taxi back to base I reflected on a hugely enjoyable time, not on Covid, which is as it should be.
