Crime update

There has been some progress in the investigation of the theft of my wallet which I can share with you. There is a case officer assigned who updates me.

There is team that deals with the CCTV footage and yet another person contacted me, tasked to take a statement over the phone yesterday.

No shortage of manpower on the case then, though no doubt some Chief Constable will complain of how policing is hampered by the cuts.

I asked if I might see the CCTV as I can recall one person who seemed  shifty to me in the shop but apparently, because of data protection, I can’t.

So that protection of privacy  overrides a necessary element of the case, namely my recognition should the defendant challenge the CCTV. I was offered witness protection which I declined.

I am impressed to date  except for the fact that the crime took place 10 days ago, there is CCTV of the actual theft and the person returning to his vehicle but the felon has not even been seen by the police as they prepare the case. Once they do so it goes to the CPS, a notoriously inefficient body, and yet more delay. The felon by then may have moved or even left the country. He is also furnished with all my personal details.
