Crystal Palace 1 Brighton HAFC 1
The spoils were divided in the M23 derby with a late equaliser in the 95th minute by Neal Maupay.
Given the dislike of the rival fans this match was less toxic than past encounters though emotions spilled over after the final whistle and the Brighton team hurriedly exited the pitch.
Had Brighton won they would have topped the Premier but they still sustained their away record of no defeats.
Given they sold Ben White to Arsenal they can only be pleased with their start. The fear was up front but Neal Maupay maintained his scoring form when he caught the Palace defence square and lobbed the keeper.
This Saturday they face Arsenal at the Amex. Arsenal looked impressive in their 3/0 defeat of Spurs and are resurgent.
I watched the draw on Sky.
In the pre-match build up we were treated to a dry stat based analysis by Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry which I found tedious.
Surely viewers would be more interested in the history of this feisty rivalry?
Another feature which I find trying is the adverts. Many are repeated. I guess the NatWest advert of a girl in bed released from living at home by her kind manager is meant more to display Natwest’s diversity than service but it sends me running to do my chores.
Finally, stumps have been drawn on the cricket season and what an unsatisfactory one it proved for Sussex.
The county side were bottom of the third division and made no impact in the Royal London and the Sharks lost lamely in the semi-final of the t20 to Kent.
Chris Jordan has moved to Surrey, Phil Salt to Lancashire, Jofra Archer has an elbow injury – it does not auger well for next season.
