Dial M for Murder / Rear Wondow
What better way to get through that rarher dull period between Xmas and New Year than a double bill of vintage Hitchcock on tv .
i have seen both Rear Window and Dial M for Murder many times but like all classics you turn on for 5 minutes and are rapidly engrossed.
Dial M for Murder has a tortuous plot revolving around à latch key. Ray Milland plays the suave ex tennis player plotting to kill his wife and when she herself kills her assailant he cunningly implicates her as murderer. À clever inspector played bu John Williams sess through it but her innocence turns on the latch key to the apartment.
Rear window is the cleverer film cinematically. James Stewart plays Jeff à photographer in a wheel chair watching life in the apartment blocks below one of them Lars ( Raymond Burr is plotting the murder of his wife. It’s a familiar Hitchcock feature of someone either proclaiming their innocence or someone else’s guilt as Jeff can convince his airforce police buddy Doyle of the murder. Grace Kelly his girlfriend Lisa Fremont provides glamour Thelma Ritter as his nurse humour.
In a confined space with Jeff confined to a wheel chair the master of Suspense still directs a tense thriller
