Fabio Fognini wins in Monte Carlo

Last Monday week, when Fabio Fognini was one set down and losing 5-1 to Russian Andrey Reble, I never thought that I was watching the future champion who triumphed over Serbian Dusan Lajovic in the final on Sunday and 11 time winner winner Rafa Nadal in the semis.

At 31 he struck a blow for the wrinklies. James Milner of Liverpool, and now Fabio both carry the torch for the so called ‘too old to win anything’ brigade.

The boy from down the road San Remo, 18th in the world rankings, kept his nerve to win last Sunday 6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour 38 minutes.

Bravo Fabio!
