Fiorentina file

It’s been a while since I last posted on La Viola. Given the two injuries to forwards Rossi and Bernardeschi and only the recent return of another Mario Gomez, it’s been a satisfactory season going into the winter break.

We are top of our group in the Europa League though we surprisingly lost at home last Thursday 1-2 to Dinamo Minsk. The big one, the home game v Juventus, ended in a flat goalless draw and we have won our last 2 away games ar Atalanta and Cesena, beaten 4-1 yesterday. We are particularly strong in midfield and defence. The ex-Manchester City defender Savic managed to score both for and against Fiorentina yesterday in a somewhat hilarious mix up with keeper Neto.   There is something funny about a Keystone Cops own goal with Savic misjudging his back pass with Neto scrambling to save it with bemused Cesena players looking on.

Talking of Manchester City, the injury to Aguerro gives the opportunity to our old young boy Jovetic to feature more. Bought for £27m he has yet to showcase his talent consistently and Nasri who played so well against Roma will provide stiff competition.

The surprise team this year is Sampdoria lying in third place. Their city rivals Genoa though they lost this weekend are faring well too, as are Napoli under Benitez. Now that Serie A only gets three Champions League so I cannot see La viola qualifying but steady progress is being made, we managed to hold onto our best player Caudrado, though he is not the Caudrado of last season and we are a solid side under Montella.
