I had a very happy text from John Pargiter after the Juve win. He had backed them each way at 20-1 after the knock out stage on my advice. I could not bear  supporting a Juve win so I made no  bet myself. I do not think they will beat Barca in the final.  In the Champions League they abandoned their customary set up of 5-3-2 to 4-4-2.  This means Lichsteiner a wing back is less offensive at right back  and the midfield of Pirlo, Marchisio , Vidal and Pogba too flat. Most of all their defence did not look watertight and I can’t see the trident of Neymar, Suarez and Messi missing the chances Real Madrid did.  Although the conditions were sapping , Juve had too many players over 30 and looked exhausted by the final whistle.

Fiorentina  exited the Europa League ignobly losing 2-0 at home to Seville and 5-0  on aggregate . We still might  achieve a Europa League place but a  season full of hope  has ended with no success.

Talking of success if you take as a sign of a league’s preeminence European competition, the liga with three clubs in the semis, Barcalona, Real Madird and Seville and serie a with Fiorentina, Juventus and Napoli make the Premier with none somewhat lacking.
