Fiorentina file: Roma 3 Fiorentina 1

Last night Fiorentina lost 3-1 to Roma in a thriller at the Olimpico.

It was Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge of Roma and there were several faces familiar in their red and yellow strip to English fans; Patricio (Wolves) in goal, Mikitaryan in midfield and now Tammy Abraham from Chelsea.

They took an early lead through Mikitarytan but the Viola deservedly equalised through highly rated Milenkovic but ex-Fiorentina’s Jordan Verretout scored a couple to win.

I was very happy with Fiorentina’s performance if not the result. It has been a bumpy  summer with Gattuso walking out as head coach.  Valentino Italiano replaced him.

I  was going to title this post “Made in Fiorentina, exported to the world” as there is a flow of our best players to other clubs: Alonso went to Chelsea, Bernardeschi and Chiesa to Juventus, Nastasic and Jovetic to Manchester City, Caudrado to Chelsea and then Juventus.

Now I fear we will lose young forward Valjoivc and defender Milentovic.

We did not expect to lose so much talent after American media mogul Rocco Commisso acquired the club.

Other news: Cristiano Ronaldo was on the bench of Juventus in their 2-2 draw with Udinese reflecting the financial problems of the “Big Boys’ seeking to offload their high earners with Inter selling Lukaku and others on big wages available.

There has  definitely been a power shift which the ill-fated European super league was designed to correct.
