Fiorentina reach Conference final
On Wednesday evening “il mio babbo” (my dad) and I settled down to watch Club Brugge play la Viola in the second leg Conference semi-final.
We had a 3-2 lead but Club Brugge, who numbered Fulham’s ex Dennis Odoi and a talented striker in Thiago, would be a tough match.
Indeed they were – they took the lead through de Kuyper but we equalised late through a penalty converted by Beltran to reach the final for the second consecutive year in Athens at AEK Athens ground , where we will meet Olympiakos, another Athenian side Olympiakos who beat Aston Villa 6-2 on aggregate.
We stayed on to watch an exciting semi- final in the Champions League in which Real Madrid triumphed over Bayern Munich 2-1 with late goals.
My dad maintained that Carlo Ancelotti’s record as manager with several clubs makes him superior to Pep Guardiola of anyone.
He has now reached his sixth Champions League Final.
To celebrate Viola reaching the final I opened a fine bottle of le Serre Nuove Ornellaia.
Over the second glassful of this deliciously mellow red wine we sat down to compose our greatest Fiorentina side as follows:-
Sarti
Magnani, Passarella, Vidic, Cervezo
Dunga
Baggio, Antognoni, Rui Costa
Hamrin, Batistuta
We are saving the rest of the bottle for the final.
