God’s own country

Gerald Ingolby surprises himself

Two rounds of golf in two days – if you’d asked me a week ago whether I could manage even one without a buggy, I’d have laughed at you.

I guess you find out little about yourself until and unless you try.

Ashdown4The Old Course at the Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club near Forest Row is one of the most impressive and demanding I know.

Yesterday she was showing herself in all her glory – the sky a patchwork of dark, forbidding areas hinting of torrential rain and snow-white fluffed-up clouds and bright sunshine, the landscape as beautiful as I have ever seen it.

A truly great place to be …. let alone playing golf.

[Too bad that the M23 – both carriageways – south of the M25 intersection was a disaster area – a mash-up of road works and gridlocked traffic].
