Goodbye and good riddance?
As the USA and Britain military forces prepare to make their ignominious withdrawals from Afghanistan, there is much speculation as to what legacy – if any – they will leave behind.
There is also a lot of spin and froth from politicians and military commanders of both countries, naked designed to put a brave and positive face upon what is – de facto – pretty much a straightforward ‘tail between the legs’ retreat, prompted by ‘home’ public weariness at the human and financial cost.
It is left to media commentators to try and make sense of what is happening and, if necessary, tell the blunt truth.
