Hampshire beat Sussex by 9 runs
I do not suppose there will be more than a paragraph in the sporting media on Hampshire’s victory in the Royal London Cup but it was a thrilling contest.
For the second match in succession Sussex took the game to a final over but unlike Essex there was no victory. Hampshire set an imposing total of 355 with Alsop and Markram making centuries.
Sussex were poor in the field.
With Luke Wright going cheaply and 4 wickets down for less than a hundred it seemed an impossible task.
However South African David Wiese scored a magnificent 171 capably supported by skipper Ben Brown.
Game on.
With 2 overs to Sussex looked favourite but another South African Kyle Abbott and former Sussex Academy spinner Mason Crane disposed of Wiese and the tail to win.
It was an epic match but the only way I could follow it was on Radio Solent.
