Harlequins 40 Bath Rugby 36

Bath almost “out-Quinsed’ the hosts with a mighty come back after being 40-0 down. It did reflect well on the Premiership.

Quins, after being hammered by Saracens last time out, achieved an important win whilst Sarries lost to Northampton Saints, who themselves were beaten the previous weekend by Bristol Bears.

André Esterhuizen contributed 2 tries with his forceful running.

How Quins will miss him but will 37 year old Danny Care go too?

He has been such a part of the furniture since joining us from Leeds Tykes 17 years ago.

For many years he was the best scrum half in the country but Ben Youngs always “got the nod” at international level.

Bath got back into the game with some impact subs, notably Alfie Barbeary. With Zac Mercer and Tom Curry, England certainly have plenty of options in the back row but let’s not forget Quins’ Alex Dombrandt who played his normal reliable part at the base of the scrum.

Marcus Smith scored the type of try which only he can produce. He drifted to his right and – seeing an opening – he chipped into it and chased the ball down to score.

I believe the great debate of Owen Farrell/ George Ford/ Marcus Smith will be resolved by Fin Smith who played a blinder for Northampton Saints and is the next young thing.
