Harlequins 54 Bristol Bears 24

I trespass on club rugby with some trepidation as I do not follow this with the degree of knowledge of Sandra McConell and Derek Williams.

But with no televised club football available, needs must and the choice between Czech Republic and Wales and this match was not challenging.

I was rewarded by an exhilarating game.

Harlequins – 17 points down at  half time – mounted a terrific recovery in the second half.

They had many heroes – the indefatigible number 8 Alex Dombrandt, a sparky Danny Care, Andre Esterhuizen ploughing through everybody, but my eye was caught by Marcus Smith.

The young fly half, who came on for Louis Lynagh, at one stage received the ball and was seemingly going nowhere as he back-tracked.

He then spotted an opening, chipped into it and collect the ball to score.

Barry John lives on.

Surely Eddie Jones watching in the stands can no longer ignore him?
