Just in

It never rains but it pours

Comedian Frankie Howerd traditionally used to gain a titter of laughter – often just after he’d shared a conspiratorial juicy and/or vicious put-down of a fellow member of his cast – by admonishing his (live or television) audience with an arch aside “No, don’t laugh – it’s wicked to mock the afflicted!” and, after the past twelve months of rugby union’s travails in their many forms, I am conscious that by posting today on the subject to some extent I may – to coin a phrase – be flogging a dead horse.

Nevertheless, today I feel honour bound in my capacity as sports editor to bring Rusters’ attention to a media report that I spotted overnight upon the website of the Daily Mail which needs no additional comment from me.
